- First, our dogs are custom trained for the individual. We feel that when we customize the training, we do not over train or under train a dog for someone’s specific needs. This helps us to not only develop a working relationship with our client, but in the long run, we save money by only training necessary skills for each dog. We do follow guidelines in accordance with Assistance Dogs International (www.adionline.org) for minimum skills. More frequently, our dogs are trained above those guidelines. All of our dogs complete nearly 300 hours of training before placement.
- We utilize Operant Conditioning or "clicker training".
- Dogs live with their puppy raisers from acquisition (sometimes even birth) through placement with their intended partner instead of a kennel environment. Within the next 3-5 years, we anticipate the completion of a Puppy Home where our dogs are raised and trained in a home environment in conjunction with traditional puppy raisers.

Our Mission is to custom train assistance dogs for people with disabilities.
Depending on the disability, our acceptance guidelines may allow individuals into our program that other programs may not allow. We hope to provide dogs to those that may slip through the cracks of larger organizations.
We hope to keep our organization small enough that all our staff and board members all have hands on experiences with all our clients and dogs. Our Board of Directors is a working Board where all members participate in the training and raising of our dogs, as well as client relationships. Expect to talk to a Board member during your experience with PPAD! We are truly "Changing the world, one dog at a time!"
Service Dog Candidate, Danielle speaks of her first experience coming for her initial interview: "I've been smiling ever since the tears dried from saying goodbye to Baewulf, I am so happy! I had such a wonderful experience meeting everyone, you were all so warm and welcoming, and I feel I've made new friends. I just wish I were closer to work more with you and Baewulf.. He is so awesome, Fran, you have done marvelous training with him, you'd never know he was only seven months old!"
